Young Indians (Yi) Signs MOU with NGHC for Organ Transplantation

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri 23^rd May, 2017: CII’s integral part i.e.  Young Indians (Yi), a not – for-profit organization is playing a proactive role in India’s development process. In this context, Yi runs a nationwide project called “Gift an Organ”, where the main objective is to create an awareness for Organ Donation. In order to amplify the efforts, Yi now partners with Neotia Getwel Healthcare (NGHC), a renowned hospital of Siliguri to expand the cause of organ donation. In this Nobel cause, Yi and NGHC come together in a bid to dismiss the fear the common people may have regarding organ donation. and spread awareness and acceptance to the cause. It is estimated through various survey studies that every year 5, 00,000 people lose their life due to non-availability of the right organs. This nationwide initiative by Young Indians is to raise the awareness about organ donation “Gift an Organ” (GAO). In this regard today, a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Young Indians & Neotia Getwel Healthcare Centre at NGHC of Siliguri. Mr. Hemant Agarwal Chair, Yi Siliguri Chapter & Mr. Ankit Dalmia, Chair GAO said “There is a lot of myth & social resistance towards organ donation; however we need to spread awareness & acceptance to the cause in order to save as many lives as we can”. According to the MOU, in the years to come NGHC will expand its services for renal transplant in its added infrastructure as a step forward to help people donate & receive life-saving kidney transplantation, said Dr. Shailesh K. Jha, General Manager, NGHC. Dr. Vishant Deo, Consultant General, Advanced Laparoscopic& Cancer Surgeon said “There are around 20 lakh people with kidney Diseases in India, an around 150,000 – 200,000 die each year without treatment, this campaign is an initiative to promote the importance of organ donation dedicated to saving lives of people. Dr. P.D. Bhutia, Internal Medicine Consultant, was also present during the occasion, marking the occasion he said “There are 8 types of organs that can be donated, Viz. heart, Lungs, Kidney, Liver, Eyes, Pancreas, Intestine & Skin, a person with brain dead can give new lease of life to 8 people suffering from organ failure, hence we should encourage more & more people to be an organ donor & support the noble cause.” The session was very impactful, 6 (six) people registered online during the awareness session.
